At the end of 2023, I became more and more interested in posting on TikTok.
This decision allowed me to gain over 110,000 followers in less than a year.
How?
By embracing the future of content: short-form video.
Before I talk about why short-form video content is taking over, let me share a quick story.
Last year, I was just a content creator, struggling to find my footing.
I had a blog but I had ABSOLUTELY no idea what I was doing.
Then, on a whim, I decided to share the content from one of my blog posts on TikTok.
That single video racked up thousands of views overnight.
People were commenting, sharing, and asking for more. From that day on, I committed to creating short videos that delivered value in seconds (sometimes 3 a day).
Fast forward to today, and I’m sitting here with a community of over 110,000 followers who tune in daily.
Why Short-Form Video Content is the Future
The Attention Span Dilemma
Today, attention is the new currency, and let me tell you, it’s in short supply.
We’re living in a time where people want answers faster than you can say “TikTok.” Long gone are the days when folks would patiently sift through pages of search results. Now? It’s all about instant gratification.
Platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts aren’t just trending; they’re becoming the go-to sources for quick, digestible information.
In mere seconds, people can learn something new or solve a problem.
TikTok: The New Google?
Here’s a fun fact: Many of my followers have told me they use TikTok like a search engine. Can you believe it?
They’re bypassing Google to find answers on a platform known for dance challenges! This shift has been eye-opening for me as a creator.
The key to success? Being concise, engaging, and informative within the first few precious seconds of a video. It’s a skill I’ve had to hone, but boy, has it paid off.
Blogs Aren’t Dead—They’re Evolving
Now, if you’re a fellow blogger reading this, don’t panic! Your blog isn’t obsolete; it’s just evolving.
Think of short-form videos as the trailer to your blog’s feature film. They’re the hook that draws people in, leaving them curious for more.
I still maintain my blog, but now I use it in tandem with my TikTok content. Each blog post gets a short video summary, which I post on TikTok.
This strategy has not only boosted my TikTok following but has also dramatically increased traffic to my blog. It’s a win-win!
Adapting to Thrive
If there’s one thing I’ve learned on this journey, it’s the importance of adaptation. Social media and audiences are always shifting, and those who can pivot quickly are the ones who succeed. By embracing short-form video, I’ve been able to reach audiences I never thought possible.
Tips from My TikTok Trenches
Want to follow in my footsteps? Here are some tips that helped me grow my TikTok following:
- Hook ‘Em Fast: Those first 3 seconds are crucial. I always start with a bang – a surprising fact, a bold statement, or a question that makes viewers stop scrolling.
- SEO is Your Friend: Just like with blogs, SEO matters on TikTok. I use relevant keywords in my video descriptions and always include at least three well-researched hashtags.
- Consistency is Key: I committed to posting daily, even when it felt like I was talking to myself. This consistency helped the TikTok algorithm recognize my content as reliable.
- Give, Give, Give: The most valuable lesson I’ve learned? Be selfless with your content. I always aim to provide real, actionable information without holding back. This approach has built trust with my audience, leading to more followers and engagement.
In conclusion, short-form video content isn’t just a trend; it’s the future.
By adapting to this format, I’ve been able to build a thriving community and reach people in ways I never thought possible.
